Parables of the Great Banquet and the Lost Sheep

Parable of the Great Banquet

In this parable Jesus is teaching us, in a story that we can relate to, to practice humility. That whomever takes the highest seat will be put to shame, but whomever takes the lowest seat will be exalted by the host. (Parable of the Great Banquet).

This immediately brought to my attention the state of the world, but I will be specific in order to make my point more succinct: today’s musicians. I will bring to light one examples: Taylor Swift. If we think about it, Taylor Swift started out as a simple “country girl”, even perhaps up until her Red album, which was released in 2012. Gradually she became another person as she became more and more popular. This is especially evident in the lyrics to her song “Me”: “Girl, there ain't no I in "team" But you know there is a "me"!” (Swift, Taylor and Urie, Brendan. “Me.”) Social media and news outlets make it easy to exalt oneself, and for fans to feed into the narcissism. To be honest and fair to Swift, it’s most likely hard to live humbly while being a pop star. And to be even more fair, I enjoy everything she has made, other than what came after Red. Pray for her! We all are sinners. Always remember that.

Parable of the Lost Sheep

In this parable Jesus is telling us a story of a shepherd who leaves 99 of his sheep, in order to retrieve 1 lost sheep. Who would ever do this? No human on earth! (Parable of the Lost Sheep) But our Heavenly Father? Look at Luke 15:7: “I tell you, in just the same way there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance.”
